Downtown Welland BIA

Event Marketing and Community Engagement

1. Concerts on the canal

A recurring summer concert series featuring live performances along Welland’s waterfront.

My Role

I coordinated the marketing and communications for the concert series from promotion through event day. I created social media content, wrote event information and press releases, promoted performers and schedules, and kept the public updated as each concert approached.

I also coordinated stage schedules and performer lineups, worked with staff, vendors, sponsors and community partners, and supported media communications and live social coverage during the events.

The Result

Its recurring format helped build audience familiarity and the series attracted 4,500 attendees. The consistent schedule brought more community-driven events for the residents along the canal throughout the summer.

2. ICF Canoe Polo World Championships Opening Ceremonies

The opening ceremonies welcomed athletes and coaches from 26 countries for the ICF Canoe Polo World Championships, hosted on Welland's waterfront.

My Role

I coordinated the opening ceremonies for the ICF Canoe Polo World Championships, working across event logistics, marketing and communications for an international sporting event.

I helped organize the ceremony schedule, stage setup and lineup, prepared invitations and public-facing event information, and coordinated with staff, event organizers, community partners, media and other stakeholders. I also supported press releases, social promotion and live event coverage so the ceremony was promoted before the event and documented while it was happening.

The Result

The opening ceremonies gave Downtown Welland a visible role in welcoming athletes and visitors to the international championship while introducing visitors to the city and its downtown community.

3. FEAST STREET NIAGARA

Feast Street Niagara brought food vendors, live entertainment and community programming into Downtown Welland.

My Role

I coordinated the event from planning through onsite delivery. I communicated with food vendors and performers, organized schedules and event information, coordinated and trained volunteers, sent pre-event instructions and managed vendors, volunteers and changing needs onsite. I also developed and scheduled social media and email marketing to build awareness and give attendees the information they needed before the event.

The Result

The event brought a strong audience into the downtown and created greater visibility for participating vendors, performers and surrounding businesses. It formed part of an event portfolio that attracted audiences of up to 15,000 and helped position Downtown Welland as a destination for food, entertainment and community experiences.
