RECL Council & Recreation Programming

1. Using Data to Shape Recreation Programming

As a committee member of Brock University's Recreation and Leisure Council, I worked with the team to plan student programs that reflected the interests of our student community. We reviewed historical event data, gathered student feedback, and discussed opportunities to introduce new experiences beyond traditional recreational activities.

Through this process, our team organized a variety of social, creative, and outdoor programs, including a formal gala, community hikes, art workshops, and recreational sporting events. Each initiative gave students different ways to connect, participate, and build relationships outside the classroom.

2. Marketing Programs and Engaging Students

I managed weekly email and social media communications to keep students informed about upcoming programs and encourage participation. I also developed promotional materials, including posters and videos, to support event marketing across campus.

Beyond promoting events, I served as a liaison between students and the Recreation Council. Through conversations and feedback, I helped bring student interests and participation barriers into our planning discussions, allowing us to consider both the programs we offered and how we communicated them.

3. Expanding Programming Through Partnerships

I helped connect Brock University's Recreation and Leisure Council with Niagara College's recreation department to create more opportunities for students across both institutions.

Our team invited Niagara College students to participate in Brock's recreation events and supported outreach through classroom presentations and student recruitment initiatives. The partnership also introduced Niagara College students to Brock's Recreation and Leisure Studies pathway, connecting recreation experiences with opportunities for continuing their education.

This collaboration extended our programming beyond Brock's existing student audience while supporting stronger connections between the two institutions.
